Tips To Add To Your Basketball Training Program
Chances are if you have stumbled across this article you already participate in some basketball training program. Every athlete who takes themselves seriously wants to excell on the court. Why else would you take the time to practice and better yourself if it wasn't to be the best.
When it comes to basketball one of the best ways to rise above the competition is to truly rise above the competition. Everyone wants to jump higher and dunk or just be able to get the rebound over the other guy. There are plenty of drills that can help you in raising your jumping ability above the bar. I will go into the three things that I added to my workout to help me the most.
The first thing that I added was calf raises. You see many people who lift in general tend to avoid their lower bodys and just focus on their beach muscles…ie Abs and arms. I know everyone who has seen that guy in the gym with the huge upper body and the little tooth pick legs. Don't let that be you. I am assuming you already know to workout your legs but one of the parts that many people tend to neglect is their calves. Paying a little attention to the bottom of your legs could prove great dividends in the height of your leap.
The next is box jumps. Get a box that challenges you though. You should be able to work up to at least 24" box and start doing reps for time. For example jump on the box say 30 times but do it as fast as you can. This will not only help build your leg strength but it will also help you exercise aerobically.
The last thing that is an absolute must to get that leg strength up is sprints up a hill. These will build your leg strength faster than you would have thought possible. Dont have to do anything crazy maybe 10 sprints up a pretty step hill for about 20-30 yards. The key is to be explosive in your movement.
When you are training for an explosive movement such as jumping it is important that your explosive in your practice. You want to build the fast twitch fibers.
